We see the opening video for RAW.

Your hosts are Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Ric Flair, Eddie Guerrero, and Chris Benoit come down to the ring flanked by security as Flair says he loves it when a plan comes together, and he says that last week his welcoming committee grounded Steve Austin forever as we see highlights from RAW last week. Benoit says that last week, he made a special appearance just to see Austin and the reason he can’t wrestle is because of Austin, and he says that over a year ago at King of the Ring, he was about to become WWE Champion only for Austin to take it away from him. He says that he’s had a year sitting at home with nothing but time and patience though he has run out of both, and he says that last week was the beginning of the long and painful payback as Guerrero says that last week, he had his IC Title stolen from him. He says that he felt like less of a man and he felt like he was losing his Latino Heat though after he gave Austin the Frog Splash, he felt it pumping in his body and he felt the fire running through his veins as he felt his Latino Heat. Flair says that Austin would want to wrestle tonight in his home state of Texas though that won’t happen because he’s benched, and he says that if Austin has a problem with it, he can talk to Arn Anderson as he will tell him to come down to the ring and he can say it to his face. We then see Anderson on the Titantron being held from behind by Austin as he says that he just whipped Anderson’s ass, and he throws Anderson to the floor and says that Flair missed him beating the living hell out of Anderson. He says that he’ll make it simple in that since he’s been benched, he doesn’t like it and doesn’t work for him as he says that it sucks, and he says that he wants Benoit or Guerrero tonight or he will do to Flair what he just did to Anderson. Flair says Austin won’t bully him into anything and he’ll make the decision he wants as Guerrero has a match tonight and Benoit isn’t cleared yet, and he says that Benoit is also a Smackdown star and Austin says that Flair thinks he’s better than him. He says that if he won’t give him Benoit or Guerrero, Flair can prove that he’s the Man by facing him in a match tonight and if he wins, he gets off the bench though if he loses, he’ll stay on the bench and Flair asks if Austin really wants to wrestle the 16-time World Champion. He says that’s ok with him and they will compete tonight under the condition that it will be an old-time wrestling match, and he says that it won’t be a bar fight as they will wrestle and if he beats Austin tonight, Austin will stay on the bench for the rest of his career. He says that Austin is no match in a wrestling match against him and Austin asks what exactly a “Nature Boy” is as he stomps on Anderson repeatedly, and he says that he’s been drinking beer all day and nature is calling him as he takes a piss on Anderson. Austin says that Flair always that to be the man, who have to beat the man though he says it’s better to be pissed off than pissed on, and he says that’s the bottom line because he says so.

Richards charges though Bradshaw avoids him and he hits the Clothesline from Hell which gets the three and we have a new champion. The match itself was decent as both men did what they could for the time they got and put on a basic brawl. The crowd was into the match and popped for Bradshaw when he won. Bradshaw gets the win over Richards and is the new Hardcore Champion as both men move on. Grade: 1

After the match, Justin Credible runs down to the ring and attacks Bradshaw who reverses a whip and he hits a big boot, and he grabs the trash can and puts it on Credible as he punches him and stomps on him repeatedly before celebrating. He hits a slam and a legdrop on Goldust as he drives the elbow into the top of his head and pounds on him in the corner, and he kicks at Goldust and chokes him with his boot only for Goldust to avoid the Bronco Buster as X-Pac crotches himself in the corner. Goldust pounds on X-Pac in the corner and chokes him with his boot as he hits a Bronco Buster of his own on X-Pac, but X-Pac blocks a second one with a boot to the groin and he hits the X-Factor which gets the three and he wins the match. The match itself was nothing much as both men worked hard and put on a basic match. Stipulations: If Austin wins, he gets to come off the bench and if he loses, he will be suspended indefinitely from wrestling, and if Austin throws a punch at any point during the match, he will be disqualified and the loser would be the winner’s personal assistant

Analysis: After a fairly quick and interesting night of wrestling, we come to our main event. Flair has been making Austin’s life miserable for the last month and now they face off here with numerous stipulations in place. Austin gets a huge pop from his home state while Flair was pretty hot as a heel. Austin was hitting his peak by this point while Flair was getting back into a groove, and they had good chemistry as Austin overcomes the odds and gets the win. The crowd was into the match and popped for Austin when he won. Austin gets the win over Flair and is off the bench while Flair now has to be his assistant, but we will see what happens going forward. Grade: 3

After the match, Austin pounds on Flair and hits a backdrop as he gets a kick in and hits another Stunner on Flair, and he celebrates with a beer bash as we go off the air.

Final Analysis: Overall, this edition of RAW was a pretty decent episode that was again centered around the main event though that match wasn’t as good as the previous week. Even though we did start the build to KOTR with this show, it was very much focused on the big feud between Austin and Flair which looked to continued after this. We did have two title matches as Bradshaw now rules the Hardcore Division while Stratus still rules the Women’s Division and X-Pac, Lesnar, Eddie, Booker, Taker, and Austin get big wins, and in terms of the matches the main event was easily the best though the other big highlight was the return of Shawn Michaels. 2002 has been an interesting year to this point as we’ve seen a few big returns to help fire up the roster, but we will see something happen next week that rocks the company to its core. As for this show, it is a pretty decent show best remembered for the main event and Michaels’ return. Final Grade: C+
